1923AMA founded. Annual Committee meetings of business leaders to exchange ideas and best practices.

Great Depression. U.S. turned to the AMA for solutions on the economic crisis.

1931The National Packaging Exposition of American Management Association annually attracted hundreds of exhibitors and tens of thousands of visitors. It was one of the many large-scale programs AMA sponsored in its early years to help disseminate information to managers on emerging trends and key business topics.
3,800 executives attend 7 major conferences.

1938WWII U.S. turned to the AMA to respond to economic war-time challenges. AMA became one of the prime channels of communication for the government --- particularly the procurement, training and manpower agencies.

1947One of 11 AMA conferences held in 1947, this meeting of office managers filled every seat in the auditorium. At least 500 business professionals attended each event that year.

1949AMA developed a well-deserved reputation for implementing creative training ideas. One of its most enduring and popular innovations is the workshop seminar, a limited-sized discussion group led by an expert facilitator covering major problem areas and practices.

1950's Introduction of 4-week "AMA Management Course." Turned into world-leading program.

1957AMA President Lawrence Appley (left) shares the podium with U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon. All three spoke at AMA's economic mobilization Conference organized to cope with the post-war recession of 1957. Guests included British Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery and Nelson A. Rockefeller, who became Governor of New York State one year later.

1960's Launch of several new initiatives: Operation Enterprise(OE), Briefings & Seminars, Onsites, AMACOM, 4 additional Executive Conference Centers in Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

Peter Drucker publishes in AMA's membership magazine "Management Review".

1961AMA opens Management Centre Europe in Brussels.
1966AMA opens Management Center de Mexico in Mexico City.

1974AMA opens the Canadian Management Centre in Toronto.

1993AMA opens AMA-Japan.

1990AMA serves the Chinese market through the Asia Pacific Management Institute in Shanghai.

2001/2004 AMA Japan hosts a conference inviting Mr. Philip Kotler.
